Holiday Extras [www.holidayextras.co.uk], has been granted planning permission to build a 15,000 square foot extension to its headquarters near Hythe in Kent.
Holiday Extras is the UK market leader for providing the extras people need when flying from a UK Airport – parking, hotels, lounges and travel insurance.
The development of new businesses have added to the company’s continued growth. Holiday Extras now also offers short breaks at UK Theme Parks and London Theatre Breaks, under their www.show-and-stay.co.uk and www.play-and-stay.co.uk banners.
The rapidly expanding travel firm has already taken on more than 40 new employees this year, increasing staff numbers at its headquarters to over 360. Once completed the extension will enable Holiday Extras to accommodate up to 200 additional staff.
“Our plan is to continue to grow all areas of our business and develop more new products. This planning permission provides us with the opportunity to expand on our existing site, the most efficient way of meeting the required demand for space.” says non-executive Chairman, Gerry Pack, who founded Holiday Extras 25 years ago.
In addition to the extension, an extra 80 parking spaces and a new access route via Stone Street off the A20 will be created. A transport assessment carried out as part of the planning application demonstrated that these additional staff numbers would not increase the traffic load on the A20.
A green travel plan was a key feature of the Holiday Extras planning application. “We want to reduce the number of single person car journeys. Our green travel plan will encourage staff to take part in a car sharing scheme or use the free bus service to areas where high numbers of staff live,” says Holiday Extras Group Head of Estates, Kim Roberts.
The new design will be the same as the existing building, which won the Kent Building of the Year award when it was completed in 2003. The original architects, Walker and Martin, will use the same materials to provide a harmonious and logical addition to the west of the Holiday Extras building.
Particular care has already been taken to ensure that the company's headquarters are screened from the road and neighbouring buildings. Landscaping and sympathetic planting will be further enhanced as part of the extension works.
The construction site can be self-contained, with minimal disruption to the business and neighbouring residential properties.
