Driving Tired

Driving tired is dangerous

Don't put yourselves, your families and other drivers at risk ... by driving when tired.

Our lives are getting faster. We try to cram as much as we can into the given time but if you are travelling to the airport for an early morning flight you might be putting yourself under an unnecessary pressure - Particularly as a night in an airport hotel can cost you less than the parking alone when you book ahead with Holiday Extras.

An RAC spokesman said that more drivers are driving an average of 350 miles in a single trip without taking a break. "Cars are more comfortable than ever and long journeys can lull motorists into a false sense of security," said the RAC's Robin Cummins.

It's reckoned that tiredness while driving was a contributory factor in 20,000 accidents last year.

A survey of 1,000 drivers showed 46 percent admit to driving while tired and 34 percent have been close to falling asleep. "Drivers are especially vulnerable in the early hours of the morning particularly on long stretches of road and motorways". said Jim Horne, director of Loughborough University's sleep research centre.

Drivers are recommended to take a 15 minute break every two hours, have a good night's sleep before a long trip, avoid travelling between midnight and 6.00 a.m. and between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m, and if possible share driving.
