East Midlands record passengers

For the first time in its history, more than half a million passengers used East Midlands Airport in May.

The airport saw an increase of 10.7% on May 2007 figures with total passenger numbers reaching 534,690. Domestic and international scheduled traffic, as well as tour and charter flights all increased.

"This is a remarkable achievement given the current industry trends. It's evidence that passengers choosing to fly from East Midlands appreciate the convenience, comfort and ease that we offer to get their journey off to a great start," said East Midlands airport managing director, Penny Coates.

The two May bank holidays boosted travel numbers with more than 65,000 people flying from the airport over the May Day weekend and 77,000 over the spring bank holiday. Palma, Alicante, Malaga, Dublin and Faro were the most popular destinations.
