(4 star hotel)
from the airport
All done on site
You can leave your car in the car park at the Copthorne Hotel Effingham Gatwick while you're on holiday - very many guests do. There's always plenty of parking space. You'll just need to leave your car keys with reception, and fill in a form with your details, then staff will move your car to the secured part of the car park. You can get the hotel's shuttle bus or a taxi to the airport, and back again to pick your car up when you return.
One thing we were told about at reception was that youll be advised not to leave your keys at the desk until right before you take the transfer bus to the airport. More than once a guest has decided that something in the car has to be retrieved and then discovered that its already been parked some distance from the main hotel. Thats not whats needed just before flying off on your hols.
As an alternative, HolidayExtras.com offers a parking package combining a night at the Effingham with parking at the airport's own official car parks. These car parks, one at each terminal, are just a five-minute hop on a bus from departures and have CCTV, fences and regular patrols to keep your car safe.
A hotel so elegant it has a piano in the lobby and a 9-hole golf course in the grounds - so much to do, so little time.
The elegance of the stately Copthorne Effingham hotel was evident from the moment we walked into the opulent lobby with its white grand piano and two-storey chandelier. The refinement of the hotel, however, didn't mean we were left with nothing to do.
You can check in from 14:00. As soon as we did we took advantage of the 9-hole golf course, putting green and driving range that's free for guests to use and rent equipment - book your place through us after you've booked your room. On the other hand, you can rent out one of the hotel's tennis courts with equipment for £10.
Fabulous fine dining is on offer at the Terrace restaurant from 18.30 to 22:00 where kids under 5 eat free, then it's on to the lively sports bar for pool or table football until the early hours. We preferred the lounge bar though, for a comfortable couch to curl up on.
Check out before 12:00, but make sure to sample the Terrace's delicious and varied buffet of breakfast treats between 06:30 and 10:00, 07:00 to 11:00 on weekends, for £11.95 per person. Let us make the arrangements for you - breakfast can be added to your booking on the next page for only £8.99, and kids under 5 eat free with the deal.
Getting to the airport is straightforward and stress free. The bus service to the airport picks up from the hotel at a quarter past every hour, from 04:15 - 23:15. Adult tickets cost £4.50, but two children can travel free with two paying adults. The journey takes 10-15 minutes.
The bus doesn't run back to the hotel, but you can get a taxi to pick you up and take you there. This will cost around £11.50. Make sure you use United Taxis as they are partners of the hotel, and it may cost more if you use another taxi firm.
The Copthorne Effingham is a holiday in itself.
