Things are looking sunny for Belfast airport passengers and airline staff alike as Jet2.com announce expansion details that will bring jobs and two new destinations to the hub.
Whilst Jet2.com will be dropping its route to Barcelona, the airline has introduced flights from Belfast to Dubrovnik in Croatia and to Newquay in Cornwall which they state will create about 50 new aviation-related jobs.
Ideal for passengers hoping to catch some waves in Cornwall's surf capital and for those looking for some European culture and excitement, the new routes are on sale now. Philip Meeson, Jet2.com boss, stated: "These are exciting times for us and, unlike other airlines which are grounding planes due to hard times, we are expanding our range of destinations and are planning to increase our overall capacity from Northern Ireland."
As stated by Mr Meeson, Jet2.com are standing out as an airline seemingly not affected by the current economical situation. Jet2.com's parent company Dart Group plc announced record half-year profits of £30 million and record load factors of more than 90 per cent.
