Doncaster and Sheffield's Robin Hood Airport was visited by Sean Bean and Brian Blessed who unveiled a bronze statue of the folk lore legend Robin Hood. The 10 foot bronze statue was unveiled by the 2 Hollywood stars to celebrate the success of the airport since it began operations in 2005.
Previously serving as a military base, the first commercial flight left Doncaster Sheffield Airport on April 28th 2005 destined for Palma in Majorca. Since then over 1.68 million passengers have passed through the doors flying to the 45 destinations now available. The statue, unveiled on February 28th, was sculpted by Neale Andrew and stands on the first floor of the airport for all visitors to see. David Ryall, managing director of the airport, said that Sean Bean and Brian Blessed were chosen as they "are proud of their Yorkshire roots and remain committed to the ongoing development of the region."
