August was the busiest month ever for London Luton, with a record-breaking 1,095,956 passengers using the airport.
An additional 27,000 passengers passed through the airport compared with August 2007, an increase of 2.6 per cent.
In contrast to the other major London airports, Luton expects the positive growth to continue into 2009, with the launch of nine new services this year.
Luton has announced new services to Poland, Romania and Italy as well as the new twice-daily flights to Rotterdam from transavia.com.
The airport runs flights to nearly 100 destinations.
Marketing director Natalie Raper said: "Achieving record passenger traffic in the current economic climate is fantastic."
