Different people in our department do different jobs. The helpdesk help people around the building with IT issues and queries - anything from how to print a document to complicated problems with their machine. Other people look after the routing of the phone systems and make sure all the call centre's calls are coming through properly. Then there are others who look after the booking system, the servers and all the websites. They try to prevent the system from crashing and fix it when it does.
To work in our department you don't need to have any specific qualifications or experience, just a burning interest in computers. You can learn the rest on the job. The big thing is having a logical mind, being good at problem solving and being able to work with people and help them. You must have excellent attention to detail, because the smallest mistake can cause massive problems. You also need patience and the ability to work under pressure - the company loses hundreds, maybe thousands of pounds a minute if the website or the call centre go down.
The people I work with are the number one reason I enjoy my job. People are the core thing in this business. We work hard, but everyone's quite relaxed and flexible and we have a laugh.
