Pay-per-click advertising

We're the internet ad men
vacancies our awards our culture our people company information department information career development

Our team deals with the internet advertising Holiday Extras pays for. Most of our time is spent working on our pay-per-click (PPC) adverts on Google, Yahoo and MSN. We choose a search term, like airport parking, and when someone searches for that term, our link appears at the top of the page, normally labelled as a sponsored link. In return, we pay the search engine a fee every time someone clicks on that link and goes onto our website.

We have to deal with a number of different elements and find the right balance between them all to make sure the advert performs as well as it can. These include choosing the search terms, writing ad copy which will attract people's attention, and working out how much to spend so we get the best return on our investment.

We also deal with display advertising - paying for banner space on websites. Banner ads are more eyecatching and can attract significantly more customers than simple text ads, so a lot of time goes into the design. Again, we have to make sure we are advertising in the right places and that the cost is appropriate./p>

Overall as a team we are responsible for a large percentage of bookings - pay-per-click advertising is a very lucrative market. As a result we spend a huge amount of money each year, so it is important to keep a close eye on budgets and performance.

The job requires a lot of attention to detail and focus, as the markets in which we operate are subject to constant change. We also deal with a lot of different sets of ads and search terms, so it is important that the person in the role feels comfortable with monitoring such high volumes of information. Paid search requires a deep competency with numbers and the written word as we deal with a lot of stats and new ads. A person within our team also needs to be a good communicator, both written and verbally, as it is key that all members of the team are kept up to date with the latest information.

Our team is a very social team, so it is important that team members are willing to work as part of a team and not just autonomously. An approachable and enthusiastic personality is key and the ability to ask for help when needed is important to us as a team to help with time management and personal development. Fun is a key theme at Holiday Extras and within the team, so an open and social person is what we are looking for.
