The System Development team is tasked with designing, maintaining and developing the internal systems across the business. Some examples of the systems we work with are Fusion, Content Manager and DB2. Fusion is the internal intranet system and has a host of features to make use of such as employee profiles, noticeboards, helpdesks, recruitment and news. Content Manager controls much of the information on the Holiday Extras website and is vital to the successful everyday running of the business.
Likewise DB2 is extremely important as it plays a crucial role in the reporting and storing of data to all areas of the business. System Development are also tasked with data warehouse where the DB2 system is located.
We currently have 12 people in the department with an additional two looking after CHIPS. CHIPS is the back end system that holds all data, rates, availability, bookings, payments, finance options, and programs needed for the day to day running of the business. It also handles the xml sent in by the web front end allowing us to make bookings for parking, hotels, lounges, rail, coach, add-ons, theatre, theme and ticket only products.
To work in our department you would have to be a 'true tecchy'. Good understanding of PHP and Java as well as strong database experience are vital. You will also need to have excellent knowledge of software architecure. System Development is an exciting and rewarding department to work in within our modern open plan building.
