Our job is to make sure our website is easy for our customers to use and that everything is working as it should be.
We are usually the first point of call if there is a problem with the website, and we have to find out what the error is and either fix it ourselves or enlist the help of someone who can.
We are troubleshooters with an eye for detail, but all of us are non-techies, which helps us to look at things from the customer's point of view. We work with every department in the company, which includes running a phone and email helpdesk for the call centre to sort out any problems with the system they use.
Whenever there are changes or new features on the website, we test them before they are finalised to make sure they are working properly. We are also constantly monitoring the existing websites to make sure they are working properly.
Recently we've been involved in the rebranding of the Holiday Extras website, the launch of our upgrades pages and the creation of our new website for travel agents.
To do our job you have to be able to remain calm in any situation, work under pressure and prioritise. You need to be diplomatic and able to see things from a variety of angles, understanding different departments' points of view as well as the customer's. Our job is very hands-on and interactive.
Since you'll be liaising with the whole web team, you'll need to learn who everyone is and what their job is. You'll need to be able to communicate with and deal with a variety of people and make sure everyone is aware of any changes and up to date with what is happening, especially when there is a big project on. We work with a number of different programs and systems, and you'll need to develop an in-depth understanding of all of them.
Good teamworking skills are essential, and you need to be chatty and sociable. Our team have a great respect for one another and will support each other, whether that be manager to junior or vice versa, in stressful situations. There is a buzz in our team and emotions run high but it's great fun to be in the thick of it. After a job well done there is always thanks and satisfaction and sometimes pub lunch!
