2010 Customer Awards - Newcastle airport

Newcastle airport has been named runner-up in the Best Airport category at the HolidayExtras.com Customers' Awards 2010.

The region's largest airport, Newcastle International began life in 1935 as a mere airfield for the Newcastle Aero Club in the Northumberland town of Cramlington. It would be a decade before the airport would begin operating in an official capacity at its current site in Woolsington.

"Fantastic. Great airport. Facilities first-class."

Since then, the airport has enjoyed steady growth to become the modern facility we find today. Almost five million travellers passed through the terminal at Newcastle airport in 2009, boarding flights to more than 85 worldwide destinations with some of the world's most recognisable airlines.

The airport has grand plans to expand its operations in the coming years. With developments planned to improve the terminal building and pier, runway and taxiway corridors, and car parks and landside ancillary activities, the airport is aiming to significantly expand the number of travellers passing through its doors by 2016.
