Most Recommended Airline for Travellers with a Disability

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus has been named a finalist in the Most Recommended Airline for Travellers with a Disability category at the HolidayExtras.com Customers' Awards 2010.

Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland, flying to destinations including North America, Europe and northern Africa. The airline is the second largest in Ireland after Ryanair. In 2008, the airline flew 10 million passengers on a variety of routes with its low-fares service.

"Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are excellent."

Aer Lingus was founded in 1936. It was just five days after its registration as an airline that the first flight took to the skies. Routes rapidly increased, and by 1937 Aer Lingus was completely owned by the Irish government. The first transatlantic flight by an Aer Lingus aircraft took place in 1958 and was followed in 1965 by the introduction of jet aircraft for European routes. In 1970, the airline took delivery of Boeing 747 aircraft, meaning greater capacity on a single flight was possible.

Aer Lingus prides itself on being known as the 'friendly airline'. The range of support Aer Lingus provides for travellers with a disability is extensive and includes wheelchairs, special meals and arrangements for assistance dogs. Staff on board will also assist travellers with any needs they may have during the flight.
