The first Jet2 leisure flight took off in February 2003 from Leeds Bradford airport, and since then the regional airline has experienced steady growth to emerge as a serious player in the British low-cost airline sector. The carrier operates from eight airports across the north of the UK. A 39-strong fleet of distinctive red-tailed jets flies to more than 50 destinations on 189 routes across Europe.
The airline aims to set itself apart from other low-cost carriers by providing convenient late morning and early afternoon flights; a 22kg baggage allowance, allocated seats, friendly service and loyalty points for free flights and travel extras.
During 2010, Jet2 scooped a number of awards including Best Website at the Budgies World Low Cost Airline Awards and Airline of the Year at the International Sales Person of the Year Awards. It also picked up silver and bronze awards for Best Airline for Value for Money and Best Airline Cabin Crew in the Holiday Extras Customers' Awards that year. The airline was named Best Short Haul Airline at the Globe Travel Awards 2012.
