Adventurer Charley Boorman is now well-known for his passion for motorbikes and his enthusiasm for travel.
He first gained public attention as a travel personality when Charley and old friend Ewan McGregor took part in a BBC Two travel documentary during 2004 - Long Way Round. The journey took the pair 20,000 miles across the globe as they rode across 12 countries and 19 different time zones - all in 115 days.
In 2006, Charley fulfilled his childhood dream of competing in one of the worlds harshest challenges: the Lisbon Dakar Rally. His experience was filmed, later being made into a seven-part series - Race to Dakar.
Charley completed another journey with pal Ewan in 2008; this time travelling from Scotland to Cape Town on their motorcycles. At the end of The Long Way Down, the pair arrived in Cape Town after 85 days and 15,000 miles.
It was during the filming of The Long Way Down that Charley become involved with UNICEF when he visited various projects run by the international childrens charity. He has continued to work closely with them ever since and is now an ambassador.
Right to the Edge: Sydney to Tokyo By Any Means was shown on BBC Two in 2009/10, and followed Charley on a mission to travel using only local transport.
In 2011, Charley competed against seven other celebrities in a live Channel 4 show - Famous and Fearless. Sporting activities included inline speed skating, BMX and abseiling to raise cash for chosen charities. Charley won the series raising £40,000 for UNICEF.
In the same year, Charley crossed the world's second largest country, Canada...a 10,300-mile journey on his trusty motorbike.
Charley is the son of film director John Boorman and is accustomed to life in the public eye. As a child he appeared in the classic film Deliverance and he has held several acting roles in films. Acting is no longer his main focus though, and he is now a successful travel writer and presenter.
