In 2010 Karl featured as the idiot in the successful Sky TV show, An Idiot Abroad. Pilkington's inherent dislike for travelling is at the heart of the entertaining travel show, in which the reluctant adventurer is sent around the globe. His dry sense of humour and the ability to find the negative in most situations is utilised to the full!
In series one, Karl visits the seven wonders of the world. He first expresses his disappointment over the Great Wall of China when he learns that some parts have been refurbished. On route, he experiences a back wax in Brazil, and wrestles in a purple lycra suit in Mexico. In series two while on the the South Pacific island Vanuatu, Karl meets a tribe who worship Prince Philip. He gets seasick while whale-watching in Alaska, and in Africa he experiences life in a slum.
Karl recently took on his first acting role in new comedy series, Derek, working alongside old friend Ricky Gervais.
Growing up on a council estate in Manchester, Karl was told by teachers that he would never be a high-flyer. In spite of this, Karl Pilkington has become a household name over the past couple of years. Karl met Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant while working as a producer on XFM radio. Their friendship grew and the trio have gone on to produce many successful TV shows.
