"There's a cocktail bar on Skopelos in the Aegean that must be counted as one of the best in Greece, if not the western world. The trouble is that I've never been able to remember its name, probably because I have too many of their world-class margaritas. Anyway, you can't miss it at night, when you'll see a patch of green light at the top of the cliff at the end of the harbour, next to the town hall. Walk up the flights of very steep stairs and reward yourself with breathtaking views of one of Greece's prettiest harbours... and a margarita or two. At 10 Euros they're not cheap, but they're worth every cent."

Skopelos - adventure the island

Skopelos means 'rocky' - a good description for the island's mountainous landscape. Not forgetting the historic white buildings, climbing bougainvillea, pretty flowerpots, deep valleys and churches aplenty. This is how many visitors would describe the pretty island of Skopelos.

What's there to see and do

Chora is the capital of Skopelos. Here you can visit the Folklore Museum (link to previous page) or take a stroll through the old town and admire the beauty as you climb your way from the harbour to the old fortress. On the other side of the bay, there is a nunnery a great place to visit if you're dressed appropriately.

Renting a car is a good way to see exactly what the island has to offer, however you can also go on guided walks and trips where you can see the traditional farmhouses and quant churches to name a few.

There are good bus connections with the beaches and Glossa, but because the island is so steep, you often have to walk the last part of your journey. Taxis are also available.

Skopelos beaches

Crystal clear waters surrounded by coves, pine trees and traditional taverns are just a few words to describe the delightful beaches found on this island.
Most beaches in Skopelos are shingle beaches except Limnonari.

Skopelos port by night

Skopelos by night

Chora, Skopelos' capital, is the place to be for the nightlife. Taverns and small bars can be found in the harbour as well as in the winding streets. Although most places are small the atmosphere is still alive and most stay open until late.
There is a disco in Glossa.

Tickle your tastebuds

If you like your food, Greece is the place for you. From the universal fata cheese, moussaka, olives, aubergines, tomatoes, Greek yogurt and baklava to the Skopelos special cheese pie and walnut pie with ice cream, every meal will be a delight.

Holiday souvenirs and more

Most shops can be found in Chora. Clothes, jewellery, local pottery and nick nacks are just a few items you'll be able to spend your holiday money on. Not forgetting a bottle or two of Ouzo.
