"Venice because the streets are full of water. In soft-shell crab season there's nothing like them at the Trattoria al Gatto Nero on Burano, the Cipriani is still one of the best hotels in the world and you can teach children the history of art by cocktails like Rossini (prosecco with strawberries), Bellini (prosecco with peach juice), Canaletto (prosecco with raspberries). And Carpaccio is a painter as well as thinly sliced beef with anchovy sauce."
The culture of Venice
Most of the population of Venice are middle-aged. The city can often appear to be full of young people, however they will usually live close-by in Mestre. Unlike many tourist areas Venice actually becomes fairly quiet in the evenings, even in the main tourist area in San Marco, as many shops close early. Very residential areas of Venice such as Dorsodoro also become extremely quiet in the evenings.
If you are a night-owl and this discourages you from visiting then don't worry as you can always visit the bars and cafes close to the University that open as late as 2am. They tend to attract the younger crowds in and around Venice. Some cafes and bars to keep an eye out for are, Margaret Duchamp, Ai Do Draghi, Cafe Noir, Round Midnight or Cafe Blue in Calle de la Scuola. These are just a small cross-section of the bars and cafes in the area with many more waiting to be discovered.

Venice has featured in many films with three separate appearances in the James Bond adventures From Russia with Love, Moonraker and the 2006 re-make of Casino Royale. The 2003 re-make of The Italian Job also featured the city as well as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Death in Venice, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Othello, The Merchant of Venice (2004) and Brideshead Revisited. The computer game Tomb Raider II has its first few levels set in the city as well as the eagerly anticipated Assasins Creed II.
