Getting to Luton airport by car

If you are picking up a friend or family member from Luton airport, it’s important to know where to go. Fortunately, the airport is easily accessible from locations around the UK, thanks to its proximity to London, and the M1 and M25 motorways.

The following distances should give you an idea of the length of your drive:

  • Central London – 32 miles
  • Milton Keynes – 25 miles
  • Birmingham – 90 miles
  • Oxford – 50 miles

If you approach London Luton from the east, via the A1, follow the A505 duel-carriageway through Hitchin. The airport will be clearly signposted.

Approaching the airport from the west is possible via Dunstable, or by joining the M1 from the M25, and exiting on junction 10.

Where to park for pick ups

For quickly picking up passengers from inbound flights, you can use special, cost-effective zones at Luton airport. It’s important to choose a car park that is suited to your purposes, from the options listed:

  • Mid-term car park – An excellent choice for collecting passengers, you can stay for free in this zone for up to 30 minutes, and you’ll benefit from a free two-minute bus ride to the terminal*. If you stay longer than the allotted time, charges will be added.
  • Short-term car park – This car park is just four minutes walk from the terminal. You can stay for up to 30 minutes for £3.80*.
  • Priority set down – The closest pick up point to the terminal, you can stay here for up to 15 minutes at a cost of £2*. You are not able to leave your car so your passenger will need to make the two-minute walk to you from the terminal.

*Prices shown correct as of August 27, 2013.
