Heavy overnight snow falls have been causing chaos across the country's travel networks and problems at a number of UK airports.
While some airports are still open and operating normally, many roads are likely to be closed or heavily affected. Ensure that you leave plenty of time if you're departing for the airport today and allow for delays on the road.
Gatwick & Heathrow Airports...
The runway at Gatwick Airport was closed this morning as a result of the heavy snowfall but has since re-opened. Passengers travelling from Gatwick are advised to check in as normal. Heathrow airport remains open though British Airways have announced that many short-haul flights from the airport will be cancelled.
While both airports are now open, BAA state that flights into and out of Gatwick and Heathrow may be subject to delay or cancellation. Passengers are advised to consult their airline before departing for the airport and to allow extra time for road and rail network disruptions.
Runway Closures...
The runways at Stansted, London City and Bristol Airports remain closed. At Luton Airport all flights are currently suspended due to the adverse weather. Cardiff Airport's runway is closed though expected to re-open by noon.
Passengers departing from all UK airports today are advised to check with their airlines before leaving home. Road conditions throughout the country are hazardous with black ice and freezing fog expected to become a problem as the day progresses. The Highways Agency are advising drivers to check weather forecasts and road conditions before setting out. Remember to allow plenty of time for travelling.
