A survey by low cost airline Monarch has found that travellers regard airport check in as the most stressful part of the travel experience.
In the passenger survey conducted by Monarch, no less than 59% said they find check in the most stressful aspect of their holiday. This was followed by booking the flight (27%) and boarding the aircraft (14%).
The Monarch survey also reveals some interesting things about passengers preferences when it comes to flying. The most popular place to sit on a flight is at the front (62%), followed by in the middle (22%), with at the back (16%) least popular.
The most popular seats on planes are window seats (58%) followed by aisle seats (26%). But perhaps surprisingly, no less than 16% said their favourite seat on a flight is the middle seat.
Respondents were also asked what they value most onboard a flight. The overwhelming favourite, voted for by no less than 70%, was extra legroom. Next most valued was good service (16%) followed by hot food options (14%).
There seems to be some confusion amongst passengers about how to describe Monarch. Just over a third (34%) described Monarch as a charter airline, but the remaining vote was split equally between a low cost airline and a scheduled airline.
Monarch passengers seem to be a well-travelled bunch, with 41% saying they fly with a low cost airline 3 to 5 times a year, followed by 31% who fly 6 to 10 times a year, and the remainder who fly with a low cost airline up to 2 times a year.
A surprisingly high proportion (69%) of respondents also own property overseas. A further 17% said they didnt currently, but would like to.
Golf is a popular pastime with Monarch passengers. Favourite golf destination amongst respondents was the Costa Blanca (59%) followed by the Algarve and Costa del Sol.
But the credit crunch has inevitably had an affect on the flying habits of passengers. No less than 43% said they still fly but try to spend less, while 22% admitted they do fly less. But for a lucky 35% the credit crunch has not affected there flying habits at all.
