Airport websites analysed

Heathrow airport will be assessed against Singapore Changi

Airport websites will come under the spotlight as part of a new project that will lead to the Airport Website of the Year Award.

The Moodie Report is launching The Moodie 100 Airport Web Index, a fortnightly analysis that will look at two airport websites from different parts of the world. Each airport website will be assessed against a 100 point system based on criteria relating to how consumers use the site.

The first pairing this week sees Dubai International airport being matched up against Hong Kong International airport. The next head-to-head will see Heathrow airport taking on Singapore Changi, followed by Vancouver International against Sydney airport.

The Moodie Report Research & Analysis team is also starting what it claims is "the most comprehensive analysis to date of how airports are embracing the internet, both in terms of aeronautical and non-aeronautical activities". According to Moodie, "The latter are generally badly under-developed in web terms".

In February 2009, The Moodie Report will host the first ever Moodie 100 Airport Website Index Conference and Awards. This will include case studies from inside and outside the airport sector and presentations from internet experts. During the conference, Airports Council International will give a presentation on The Airport Wayfinder, a 3D animated video information guide that welcomes and orients airline passengers to airports and the surrounding region.

As well as the overall winner of the Airport Website of the Year Award, there will also be regional winners and awards for retail and commercial activities, design and sense of place.

"We understand the Internet and its possibilities intimately and we believe this project can help the airport world embrace the web better and in a more dynamic and interactive fashion,” says Moodie Report publisher, Martin Moodie.
