British Airways is to begin new flights to the Caribbean island of St Kitts and Nevis this winter.

Weekly flights from Gatwick to St Kitts will start on Saturday January 10th. The new flights confirm BA’s position as the UK airline with the most flights to the Caribbean.

"This new route to St Kitts underlines our commitment both to the Caribbean and Gatwick and re-establishes a connection between the UK and the island, says British Airways head of leisure sales, Adam Daniels.

"The introduction of St Kitts as a British Airways route means that we now operate to 11 destinations in the Caribbean. The region is performing extremely well for us. Our customers also tell us that they feel secure flying with an airline with an established heritage and longevity in the market in these turbulent times," Daniels adds.

BA has also announced that it is increasing the number of flights it offers to Dubai and Johannesburg. Flights from Heathrow to Dubai will increase from 14 to 20 a week from March 29th next year. The airline says that winter sun and fantastic shopping are continuing to boost Dubai’s popularity, with new 5 star hotels opening every month to cater for the demand.

Leisure travel to Johannesburg is also up, BA reports, as holidaymakers use the city as a gateway to the increasingly popular destinations of Botswana and Mozambique as well as a base for exploring South Africa. Business and leisure travel to the city is also expected to increase when South Africa hosts the 2010 World Cup. BA is increasing flights from Heathrow to Johannesburg from 14 to 19 a week from May 1st 2009.

BA is continuing to switch flights from Gatwick to Heathrow Terminal 5. Atlanta is the latest US destination that BA will move to T5 following the Open Skies agreement. Daily flights from Heathrow Terminal 5 to Atlanta will start from March 29th 2009.

On the same date BA will also move its flights to Toulouse in France from Gatwick to Heathrow. The airline will continue to operate two flights a day to the Rose City.
