Disruption at Aberdeen airport

Work on new terminal forecourt affects drop off area and car park

Work begins today on the new terminal forecourt at Aberdeen airport which will cause disruption in the drop off area and airport car park.

Airport operator BAA, which owns Aberdeen airport, is spending £2 million on the new terminal forecourt, creating a dedicated access lane for taxis and buses, and a drop off area for passengers. Work on the project is expected to last for about 18 weeks.

BAA says that the pedestrianisation of the area previously used as the inner forecourt will improve access for passengers. Airport security is also being enhanced. The temporary concrete blocks installed after the attack last year on Glasgow airport will be replaced with permanent bollards.

As part of Aberdeen airport's commitment to reduce CO2 emissions, low energy, high efficiency lighting is being installed in the terminal forecourt area.

“Unfortunately, during the construction phase of the project a degree of disruption is inevitable, particularly in the area currently used as the drop-off area and car park. We will be working hard to ensure that these new arrangements are introduced as smoothly as possible, therefore minimising potential inconvenience throughout construction,” explains Aberdeen airport customer services director, Will Dougherty.

“I am confident that when this work is complete the forecourt will meet the needs of our passengers and represent a significant improvement on the existing arrangements, improving the end-to-end experience of key stakeholders and passengers alike," Dougherty adds.
