Airport shopping

One of the UK's fastest growing food chains is set to open as part of a fresh new look at Glasgow Airport.

Food retailer EAT is the latest addition to the retail offering at Glasgow Airport and will open to passengers at the end of March. The family-run company currently operates 95 shops throughout the UK, and has become a firm favourite with office workers, shoppers and travellers.

The new airside unit will be able to seat approximately 70 people, will be located in the main terminal concourse, and is expected to create 40 new jobs at the airport.

EAT co-owner Faith MacArthur said: "We are delighted to open in Glasgow Airport and to be part of such a high quality new departure lounge. This is one of our largest shops and the first EAT in Glasgow so I am excited to see how popular our porridge, bacon butties and full Scottish breakfast muffin will be with hungry Glaswegians early in the morning!"

The new establishment is the latest step in the multi-million pound revitalisation of Glasgow's terminal building. Last October, the airport opened a new two-storey 'skyhub' terminal extension that includes a purpose built security search area, a new UK arrivals hall, additional seating capacity and new bars, shops and restaurants.

The final phase of the project is currently in progress and will see large parts of the existing terminal building, including the former domestic and international search areas, refurbished to provide new seating areas, food outlets and retail stores.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "The opening of skyhub was the first phase in our ongoing transformation of Glasgow Airport. This next phase will deliver further improvements for passengers with more space to relax and a wider choice of quality shops and restaurants in the main terminal. The creation of 40 new jobs is also a welcome boost for the local economy at a time of economic uncertainty."
