 Airport check in

Edinburgh airport has installed ten new self-service check in kiosks to increase check in capacity and speed up journey times for passengers.

The new check in kiosks have been added at a cost of £300,000 by airport operator BAA and are currently available for use by Air France KLM passengers, with Flybe coming on stream later this month.

“We are always looking at new ways of improving our passengers’ journeys through the airport. The new kiosks enable us to increase the capacity of our check-in hall as further additional flights take-off from Edinburgh – this year alone 27 new services have started or are yet to start and more than nine million passengers will have used the airport,” comments Edinburgh airport customer service director, David Lister.

“We expect the self-service option to prove especially popular with frequent flyers and business travellers. It's especially handy for those passengers travelling without check-in luggage," Lister adds.

To use the self service check in kiosks, passengers have to prove their identity by presenting a passport barcode, credit card, frequent flyer or transaction number at the machine. They are then guided through a series of touch screens before their boarding pass is printed. Passengers with luggage can then go to the fast bag drop desks to check in their bags.

Air France KLM UK and Ireland general manager, Christine Ourmières, comments: “Air France KLM is committed to providing passengers with the best possible customer experience, from a swift and accessible service at the airport through to an enjoyable, safe flight and arrival”.

“The touch-screen facility will undoubtedly enhance customer service by helping to speed-up the check-in process which will save customers’ time and make their journey more stress-free as a result,” Ourmières adds.

Flybe chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter, is looking forward to the airline’s passengers being able to use the new check in facilities. “We will be operating 310 flights a week from Edinburgh from the start of the winter season so are especially pleased that our passengers will be able to enjoy the very real customer service benefits offered by the new self service kiosks. These undoubtedly save passengers valuable time at check-in, offering a much more streamlined customer experience that will prove especially popular with Flybe’s connecting passengers,” he says.
