Edinburgh Airport has played an instrumental role in the construction of a new sports pavilion for registered charity Newbridge Bowling Club.

The airport provided a £7,000 cash injection to the club in March, with the intervening period seeing the charity step up construction of the new facilities. Funding for the project came from the BAA Communities Trust.

Gordon Dewar, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, said: "We are delighted to support a local club that has served the Newbridge area for more than 100 years. The bowling club is an important social lifeline for the village, providing much needed sporting and community facilities for local people."

Dave Greenock, president of Newbridge Bowling Club, said: "We are absolutely delighted with our new pavilion it looks great. We used to have a porta cabin as a changing room and now we have this brand new pavilion. We would like to thank BAA for their generous donation. This really is a fantastic boost for the club and for the village as a whole."

The BAA Communities Trust was established in 1996 to support community projects around BAA's seven UK airports, and supports charitable projects put forward by staff and makes grants to global projects linked to youth development.
