Heathrow Terminal 5 needs volunteers
The new Terminal 5 at Heathrow opens in March and volunteers are needed to trial the new terminal before operations commence.
If youd like to be one of the first people to experience T5, then airport operator BAA would like to hear from you. We are looking for all types of people to be involved, from frequent flyers to first time flyers everyone can take part, says BAA.
Volunteers are still needed for a variety of trial dates including 16 February when there will be a Heathrow Express evacuation exercise. Other dates include 23, 26 and 28 February, and 8, 11 and finally 13 March.
Apart from being able to see inside the fantastic new terminal designed by Sir Richard Rogers, volunteers will also get a Terminal 5 gift bag and entry into a monthly prize draw for a chance to win British Airways flights. And BAA is donating £1 to Marie Curie Cancer Care for every volunteer who takes part.
Terminal 5 will feature 96 self-service check in kiosks, new hi-tech airport security systems including a fingerprint based security area, and a new computerised baggage system that tracks bags all the way from the quick baggage drop sites to the arrivals hall at the other end. There will also be a futuristic new transport system linking the new terminal to one of the airport car parks.
Travellers will be tempted by the fine shopping and dining on offer at T5. Shops include Harrods Department Store, Paul Smiths Globe, Mulberry and Tiffany & Co. Food lovers might want to try celebrity chef Gordon Ramsays first airport restaurant called Plane Food, while famous Soho patisserie Amata will be serving coffee and cakes.
The new Terminal 5 is scheduled to open on 27 March and all British Airways UK flights plus most of its European flights will be using the terminal.
