Leeds Bradford fastest growing airport in North

Leeds Bradford International Airport had its largest number of passengers ever in August and claims to be the fastest growing airport in the North.
In August 345,000 passengers used Leeds Bradford airport, a 5% increase on the previous year and the most the airport has ever seen in a single month.
Over the summer holiday period as a whole, from May to August, the number of passengers flying out from Leeds Bradford was 1,277,752, making the airport one of the fastest growing airports in the UK.
“Leeds Bradford International Airport continues to outperform the market and takes its lead from the strength of the Yorkshire economy,” says Leeds Bradford International Airport commercial and aviation development director, Tony Hallwood.
“With our route network now at 76 destinations and still growing, the airport is delivering to both business and leisure passengers and increasing inbound tourism opportunities,” adds Hallwood.
The most popular routes from Leeds Bradford airport over the summer holiday period have been Jet2.com’s double daily flight to Malaga, and Ryanair’s service to Dublin. Both these routes have carried over 20,000 passengers.
Looking ahead to next year Hallwood continues: “We continue to work closely with a number of airlines regarding programme expansion in 2009 and we look forward to delivering even more choice for our customers reducing the need to drive across the M62 for their chosen holiday or business destination”.
In the latest statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Leeds Bradford airport had the shortest average airport delays and second best on-time performance of the 75 airports surveyed. Average delays at LBIA were only 7.3 minutes, compared to 13 minutes for Manchester airport and 14.2 minutes for Newcastle airport. Leeds Bradford delivered an on-time performance of 85.5%, which the airport says was better than all major UK, European and international airports.
