British Airways long haul flights to New York JFK airport plus seven other destinations will finally transfer from Heathrow Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 on 5th June.

The transfer of long haul flights to T5 was delayed following the traumatic opening of the new terminal. Originally BA planned to transfer most of its long haul flights from T4 to T5 on 30th April. This included around 60 departures and arrivals a day, including flights to Houston and Dallas which were switched from Gatwick airport to Terminal 4 on 30th March.

Besides the flights to New York JFK, the other flights transferring to Terminal 5 on 5th June are to Abuja, Bangalore, Beijing, Cairo, Cape Town, Lagos and Phoenix. BA currently flies eight times a day to New York JFK and daily to the other seven destinations.

BA chief executive, Willie Walsh, comments: "As we announced on April 11, we will move our Terminal 4 long-haul programme into Terminal 5 in phases. We have taken this decision in the interests of customers, who remain our priority at all times. Terminal 5 is now working well, and we are pleased we can confirm our plan to move in some additional flights on June 5".

Airport operator BAA’s chief executive, Colin Matthews, adds: "I am pleased that we have reached this decision jointly. BAA and BA have worked together effectively to resolve the initial problems at T5, and to plan this next move. We continue to work together intensively to complete the migration of the remaining long haul services as soon as is practicable".

BA flights to Singapore, Sydney and Bangkok are all scheduled to transfer from Heathrow Terminal 4 to Terminal 3 in early 2009.
