Airport shopping

As part of the redevelopment of Terminal 1, Manchester airport is opening new shops at the airport this autumn and winter.

“This autumn, a chic collection of new shopping names are set to take the airport by storm, with the best of high street fashion and designer names all in one place,” the airport proclaims in a press statement.

At the heart of Terminal 1 departures, Biza is described as “a new generation of Tax and Duty Free store”. The store offers leading brands at tax free prices, including perfumes, cosmetics, wines and spirits.

For passengers wanting to bag some last minute fashion bargains before they fly a new store, Attitude, opens in Terminal 1 this winter. The shop will have a range of designer fashion labels and accessories from brands including Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger and Burberry.

Also opening this winter in Terminal 1 at Manchester airport is the temptingly titled Temptation. The new store has a range of designer sunglasses, jewellery and watches from household name brands such as Gucci, Prada, DKNY, Diesel, and D&G.

A new check in area opened at Manchester airport Terminal 1 in May so passengers can now go from check in, through airport security and straight through to the retail area where there is a choice of shops, bars and restaurants.

The redevelopment of Terminal 1 at a cost of £35 million should be complete by next summer. New food and drink outlets have already opened at the terminal and the new shopping mall will be completed soon.

Earlier this year Manchester airport celebrated its 70th anniversary. When it opened in 1962, Terminal 1 at the airport was the first European terminal to use the pier system which enabled passengers to remain undercover before they boarded the aircraft.

More than 22 million passengers now use Manchester airport every year, and the airport offers direct flights to over 225 destinations worldwide. More than 100 airlines operate from Manchester, and the airport has two runways and three terminals. The second runway was opened by Tony Blair in February 2001.
