New £500k drop-off zone at Glasgow
BAA Glasgow is to invest £500,000 in new drop-off facilities following this year's failed attack on the airport.
BAA Glasgow airport has confirmed that it is to invest £500,000 in a new drop-off zone following the failed attack on the hub earlier this year.
This round of investment will bring the total 'cost' of the attempted attack in June to £2 million.
Work will begin soon on a project to widen the drop-off zone on St Andrew's Drive to increase capacity, install new shelters along the same road and build a covered walkway to the main terminal.
New passenger pick-up processes are also being considered, including improved facilities for disabled travellers.
Airport managing director Gordon Dewar admitted that the current facilities along St Andrew's Drive, which was not originally designed as a drop-off zone, leave something to be desired but said that the airport will be working "flat out" to improve the situation.
"We believe that the improvements we are making represent a balanced and proportionate response that combines tougher security measures with safe and secure access for passengers," Mr Dewar said.
"We are grateful to our passengers for the patience and understanding they have shown over the past few months."
