New fire station at Heathrow airport

Heathrow airport, the world’s busiest international airport, has opened a new state of the art fire station.
The new fire station replaces the existing 30 year old fire station which is set to be demolished as part of airport operator BAA’s plans to transform Heathrow with the construction of a new terminal called Heathrow East.
The new £4 million fire station is located close to the 27R runway and will work in tandem with Heathrow’s second fire station, which is close to Terminal 5.
As well as better training facilities for Heathrow’s 108 dedicated fire officers, the new fire station has a lecture room and study areas plus five bays for the airport’s fire appliances.
“I am delighted to see this new 21st century fire station fully operational. Our team of dedicated fire fighters have an excellent and well deserved reputation for their efforts in keeping Heathrow safe and this new facility will provide the airport with a state of the art station for decades to come,” comments BAA chief executive, Colin Matthews.
Heathrow airport fire manager, Nathan Deverell, adds: “The new fire station has been designed to meet our current and future needs as Heathrow continues its transformation. We are proud of the service we have provided Heathrow over the past 60 years and look forward to serving the airport from our new home.”
The location of the new fire station has been carefully chosen to ensure it provides the fire service at Heathrow with the best possible response times to incidents at the airport.
