Spains second largest airline, Air Europa, will operate flights from Gatwick airport to Madrid from May 1st.
Flights will operate twice a day, departing from Gatwick at 10.25 and 17.40 with arrival times in Madrid at 13.45 and 21.00 respectively. Air Europa will use its brand new 122 seat Embraer E-195 on the route with a two class, business and economy, service.
The airline says it is planning to capture the hearts and minds of UK travellers to Latin America and the Caribbean. The flights to Madrid will offer convenient onward connections to Caracas, Santo Domingo, Buenos Aires, Punta Cana, Cancun and Havana.
Air Europa has also appointed a new UK general manager as it focuses on expansion in the UK market. Colin Stewart, formerly European director of marketing for the all business class airline EOS, takes up the role.
"It's great to be joining Spain's second largest airline just at the moment that the UK market becomes a top priority, Stewart comments.
We already have a strong team in place looking after the UK travel trade and my role will be to ensure that everyone, that's passengers, travel agents and tour operators, enjoys the highest quality of service at each contact point with Air Europa, Stewart continues.
We are going to be setting the standards very high. In a price competitive market, we know that we will need to be consistently competitive, but we'll be featuring all the extras that a world class airline with Sky Team membership can offer," adds Stewart.
Air Europa currently has a fleet of 32 modern Boeing next generation aircraft and one Boeing A340. The airlines route network covers many Spanish cities plus other popular city break destinations such as Paris, Milan, Rome, Venice, Prague, Budapest, Dakar, Tel Aviv, Tunis and Marrakesh.
Air Europa was founded in 1986 and is the airline division of Globalia Corporation, which includes tour operator Travelplan, travel agency chain Viajes Halcon and Globalia Handling, Spain's second largest airport ground handling company.
