Stansted link for Essex

Launch new coach service to south Essex
Bus at Stansted

Stansted Airport is adding to its impressive public transport network this May with the launch of a new coach service linking the airport to south Essex.

The scheme, entitled 'airdirect' and coming into operation on May 1, 2009, sees BAA Stansted and Excel Coaches offer direct services every two hours between the UK's third busiest airport and Basildon, Brentwood, Grays and Ongar.

Steve Mills, Stansted's public transport development manager, said: "Over 46% of our passengers use public transport to get to and from the airport - this is the highest figure for any major UK airport and in the top three in Europe. This service will be the only direct public transport link between Stansted Airport and this area of Essex.

"With a 90-minute journey time we are confident that people will find it extremely convenient and an excellent alternative to their car."

The route will be served by a fleet of high quality, wheelchair accessible coaches. Each is equipped with free Wi-Fi access, air conditioning, DVD screens, fully-reclining seats and boasts generous leg room. Passengers will also be able to take advantage of a taxi add-on service that connects them from their home to the relevant bus stop.

Graham Hayden, managing director of Excel Coaches, added: "We're delighted to be working in partnership with Stansted Airport on this new service and are extremely confident it will meet the demand for passengers travelling from south Essex to Stansted. This new service will help us build on our own successful route network at the airport and will provide another important link for people living in the east of England."

Those travelling from further afield may prefer to take advantage of the great value airport car parking and airport hotels available through Holiday Extras at Stansted Airport. Book in advance to secure the best possible savings.
