Travel to Luton airport improved
Advance rates for airport parking from £2.99 a day[March 24th 2008]
Luton airport is promising improved access in time for the busy summer holiday period.
A major programme of works to redevelop the public transport interchange, drop off zone, short term car park and traffic flow at Luton airport should be completed by the end of April.
By this time the drop off zone at the airport will have been relocated in order to give more space for people to unload their luggage. The new drop off zone will have extra drop off spaces, a dedicated lane for private coaches and limousines, and improved lighting. Larger parking bays with special facilities for passengers with reduced mobility will also be available.
It will cost £1 for vehicles to use the new drop off zone, allowing a stay of up to 10 minutes. Alternatively Luton airport passengers will be able to use a new drop off facility at no charge in a section of the mid term car park. Free transfers are then available to the airport terminal.
For people driving to the airport who need to park for longer than 10 minutes, Luton airports says the short term car park adjacent to the drop off zone is a good option. Prices to park at the short term car park are being reduced.
“We have made this investment so that getting to the airport is easier and more convenient for all our passengers. Dropping passengers off can be a stressful experience; we have therefore given careful consideration to providing the right facilities and enough time for people to unload in a secure environment,” explains Luton airport general manager, projects and development, Nic Horton.
“Making a small charge reminds drivers of the ten minute time allocation and keeps the traffic flowing. By offering a choice of options we can provide an airport experience to suit the needs of all our passengers,” Horton adds.
New and improved access to Luton airport will be in place from April 29th. Drivers will be able to pay by cash or with a credit card.
Earlier this month Luton airport launched a new priority lane offering a fast track through airport security for a charge of £3.
