The charitable trust that runs Chester Zoo was recently recognised for their significant contribution to conservation by being awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise: sustainable development 2006. This is the second time they have received the award, the last time being in 2001. It reflects the organisation's innovative conservation activities, environmental management and stakeholder engagement.
In addition to caring for the vast number and variety of animals at Chester Zoo, the society actively participates in and supports conservation charities world-wide. The Director General at Chester Zoo, Professor Gordon McGregor Reid, said "we are naturally delighted to receive this prestigious award once again" and Prof Reid continued to explain the award was "a testimony... to our conservation at home and abroad with everything from frogs to elephants".
