Russian carrier KD avia has announced its winter timetable, with connections between London Gatwick and 12 major cities in Russia.

The airline will travel to Moscow Domodedovo, St Petersburg, Rostov on Don, Ufa, Kazan, Volgograd, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Omsk, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod and Astana.

Using its Boeing 737 aircraft, the operator will serve the destinations via its hub in Kaliningrad.

Passengers coming from the UK will go through customs at Kaliningrad before transferring to a Russian domestic flight.

The airline claims that the airport, which is owned by KD avia, does not suffer from the congestion problems seen at Moscow's Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo hubs.

Loretta Durell, UK sales manager for the carrier, said: "With the influx of wealthy Russians into the UK, the amount of UK citizens doing business in all parts of Russia is growing dramatically.

"We are finding that regular travellers to Russia are now booking on our services and avoiding using either of Moscow's airports."
