Morocco is a popular tourist destination because it offers something different from the travel options to be found in more mainstream locations, it has been claimed.

According to Paul Staines, managing director of Saffron Villas, the African country has been enjoying healthy interest from tourists for some time now.

He explained that the most popular areas for travellers are Marrakech and Agadir.

"Marrakech is and always has been very, very popular," Mr Staines said. "Partly because the tourism that you get, particularly in Marrakech because it's a city, is very different from the coastal tourism that you get on the south coast of Spain.

"Pretty much all of Morocco is popular but all for different reasons."

Investment in foreign property is becoming increasingly popular among British people and Mr Staines said that Morocco is beginning to establish itself as one of the major destinations on the global real estate map.
