Canberra airport to get $250m upgrade
Canberra international airport has confirmed it is to embark on a massive redevelopment of its facilities.
Canberra international airport has confirmed that it is to carry out a $250 million (£108.2 million) works programme to replace its current terminal.
The scheme, which represents the biggest development in the airport's 81-year history, will also upgrade roads and car parks associated with the hub.
Canberra's terminal and car parks will be almost doubled in size and the experience of the travelling public will be "revolutionised", managing director Stephen Byron said.
"Our new terminal is designed to achieve two key objectives," Mr Byron continued.
"Firstly, to cater for future growth, and secondly to make Canberra the most modern, user-friendly, internationally capable airport in Australia."
Canberra's airport lounges will be improved, with a quadrupling in capacity to more than 6,000 square metres, while airport parking will be boosted by an additional 1,300 spaces.
Australia's national airline Qantas has agreed to become a tenant in the new Canberra terminal, a development welcomed by Mr Byron.
