Eastern Europe 'best value for skiing'
Countries in eastern Europe currently offer the cheapest options for skiing holidays, according to research.
While the current strength of the pound against the dollar may seem to make the USA a good place to take a skiing holiday, the most affordable locations are in fact in eastern Europe, according to new research.
A report by Post Office Travel Services claims that Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia currently offer the best bargains for winter sports enthusiasts.
Borovets in Bulgaria is the cheapest location of all, according to the study, with ski equipment and living costs half the price of their equivalents in the popular resort of Vail, Colorado.
Poiana Brasov in Romania and Kranjska Gora in Slovenia were also found to be more affordable than resorts in the 'big three' European ski destinations Switzerland, Austria and France.
However, Post Office head of travel services Helen Warburton warned that there is more to consider on skiing holidays than simply the cost.
"It's important for ski holidaymakers to pick a resort that suits their expertise and matches their expectations," she said.
"Challenging ski runs and resort facilities are more likely to determine choice for experienced skiers, whereas first-timers and families will be more concerned about sticking to a budget than about finding black runs. For those people and for bargain hunters, Bulgaria and Romania represent excellent value."
