Stop press: winter extended

Before you start wrapping up in scarves and gloves, it's not official. But according to www.skiinfo.com, many parts of the Alps and western Canada remain in the throes of winter, and can offer excellent skiing opportunities up until Easter.

Skiinfo.com issued more than 30 powder alarms in Austria on March 30 alone, with the resort of Nassfeld receiving 50cm and Bad Gastein 40cm of fresh snow. In the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand region of the Austria-Germany border, another metre of fresh snow had fallen, the most anywhere in the country.

There has also been a increase in snowfall throughout the best ski resorts of Switzerland, Germany, France, Scandinavia and Italy, while a spectacular winter continues unabated among the Pyrenees.

Those looking to travel further afield will find that North America and Canada continues to thrive, with fresh snow falling at a number of resort throughout Alberta.
