Wizz Air shifts base in Transylvania

Eastern European airline Wizz Air has announced that its services to and from Transylvania will now operate from a different base.

Wizz Air has confirmed that all of its flights serving Transylvania in Romania will now operate from Cluj-Napoca international airport.

The airline's new London Luton route will now fly into the airport, rather than previous hub Tirgu Mures, from November 13th.

Flights to and from Budapest, Rome and Barcelona will also operate from Cluj-Napoca, as will a new service to Dortmund, to launch on February 28th.

Wizz Air explained that one of the problems that caused it to cancel services from Tigu Mures is the hub's inability to improve low visibility conditions caused by severe weather.

Jozsef Varadi, chief executive of the airline, said: "Operational excellence and integrity is one of the pillars of Wizz Air's success and Cluj Airport will better serve us delivering this commitment to our customers wanting to fly from and to Transylvania.

"We remain committed to developing a substantial low-cost air network for the Transylvanian region."
