Munich is currently preparing for an influx of tourists for the Oktoberfest beer festival.

The German city of Munich will soon welcome flocks of tourists eager to celebrate their love of all things alcoholic at the Oktoberfest beer festival.

Running from September 22nd to October 7th, the event will be attended by locals and international travellers alike and is well known for its party atmosphere.

The festival will be kicked off by the mayor of Munich himself, who will tap the first keg of beer at midday on September 22nd, signalling that drinking can commence.

Such is the popularity of the moment that many visitors arrive up to three hours early to ensure they get a good vantage point.

Revellers at the festival will be able to entertain themselves by visiting any of the 14 tents situated around the site, offering spectacles ranging from crossbow competitions to live music.

The Oktoberfest has been a German tradition since 1810, when it was held to celebrate the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig.
