As part of its efforts to "promote tourism in and out of the UK", airline Jet2.com has announced that it is sponsoring the Leeds International film festival this year.

The event will comprise a range of cinematic genres, including comedy, thrillers and documentary as well as some less mainstream examples.

Described as a "showcase of international talent", the festival will screen foreign imports as well as work by homegrown talents.

Chris Fell, the director of the event, was reportedly "delighted" that Jet2.com has decided to sponsor the festival.

"Jet2.com's decision to support the festival is wonderful news for us and will help to safeguard the future of the festival," Mr Fell said.

This year's event is expected to offer a boost to the local tourism market as visitors and film industry types from all over the world fly into Yorkshire's airports.
