Most visitors travel to Jamaica for some rest and relaxation but those heading there around the end of November could be planning some more strenuous activities.

On December 1st the Caribbean island holds the Reggae Marathon and half-marathon, which takes runners on a picturesque journey as well as keeping them fit.

Taking place in the seaside village of Negril, the race begins at Long Bay Beach Park along the town's famous seven-mile white sand beach.

Competitors will be taken past some of Jamaica's most beautiful views as they pass through Negril before making their way to the town of Green Island.

The winners in the male and female categories will receive some distinctively Jamaican prizes in the form of Bob Marley and Rita Marley trophies. All competitors will be given a unique Reggae Marathon medal.

Flights to Jamaica are available from Heathrow, Manchester and other hubs offering airport lounges and other facilities.
