Sao Paulo will host its traditional anniversary celebrations on January 25th 2008.
Every year on January 25th the city of Sao Paulo hosts its anniversary celebrations, which traditionally offer a warm welcome to visitors.
The city was founded in 1554 by Jesuit missionaries and each year celebrates its existence by baking a cake to match the number of years that have passed since its founding.
In 2008 the city will be celebrating its 454th year so visitors can expect to see a 454 metre long cake.
As there is such an overabundance of baked goods on offer, visitors to the Bixiga neighbourhood, which is the best known area for cake-making, are offered pieces to eat for free.
In 1985 a world record was broken in Bixiga when Armando Puglisi made a cake measuring 1,800 metres in length.
Sao Paulo, in south-east Brazil, is home to more than 11 million people, making it the country's largest city by population.
