Sri Lanka prepares for English influx

Sri Lanka's national tourism agency has said it is preparing for an influx of English cricket fans over the coming days.

The tourism agency of Sri Lanka has said that it is ready to receive an influx of 7,000 English cricket fans this week.

Supporters are set to flood into the country ahead of the test series between England and Sri Lanka, which begins on December 1st in the city of Kandy.

Despite the number of people that will be travelling to see the matches, Sri Lanka Tourism said it is working towards making the tour carbon neutral.

The group will work with the Rotary Movement of Sri Lanka to plant trees and pursue other green campaigns with the intention of offsetting the additional carbon emissions that will result from the cricket tour.

A number of senior figures are expected to participate in the initiative, including representatives from the England and Sri Lanka cricket teams.

Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean, off the southern coast of India. It is home to a number of natural landmarks, including Sigiriya, an ancient city that dates back over 5,000 years and has been declared a world heritage site.
