American Airlines has moved to improve customer convenience and speed of booking on its website by introducing PayPal as a payment option for UK customers.

Monarch, Emirates and Jet2.com already utilise the facility, but American Airlines will become the biggest name so far to offer the payment option.

PayPal is currently the most popular alternative form of payment in the UK, and enables users to pay for transactions using a credit or debit card, bank account or existing PayPal account balance. Users cite the quick and easy nature of payments as one of the system's virtues, with the need to enter any financial or billing information eliminated.

Travellers booking their flights through www.aa.com will be able to secure their flights using the free service, being redirected at the payment stage to PayPal's secure website where they can log in to their account and confirm their transaction.
