American Airlines makes more cutbacks

As the crisis facing the airline industry deepens, American Airlines is cutting back services at New York LaGuardia airport and other airports in the USA from November.
Five AA flights plus 37 flights by its regional affiliate, American Eagle, will be cut at LaGuardia which is one of the most congested airports in the country. As well as leading to cost savings American believes the cutbacks could help improve the customer experience at the airport.
AA has asked the US government to reduce the number of flights at LaGuardia by 20%. "LaGuardia is scheduled at over 100 percent and has the worst dependability in the nation. With the retirement of American’s five operations per hour at LaGuardia, the DOT will be able to achieve more than one-third of the objective, and will be well on its way to providing a real solution to the operational problems plaguing LaGuardia today,” says American's executive vice president Bob Reding.
Outside New York, AA is also axing flights from other major airports in the US. At Chicago airport it is cutting 28 flights, while American Eagle will slash 34 flights. At St Louis airport, AA will cancel 8 flights and American Eagle and AmericanConnection 35. Nineteen AA flights and 23 American Eagle flights are to go at Dallas/Fort Worth airport.
American Airlines has already announced it will cease operations at London Stansted airport as well as at Oakland airport in California and Barranquilla airport in Colombia.
